My Visit To The Hockey Hall Of Fame
I have been playing hockey ever since I was a child, and grew up loving the sport with a passion. I was also a big NFL fan and got to visit the Pro football Hall of Fame back in the early 1990s, whenever my father took me there as a birthday gift. However, I had always wanted to visit the hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto as well, but never got a chance to do it until a few years ago, when my wife took me there for the first time. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect whenever I got there, but I had done some research on it and found a number of really interesting things, including the fact that the main floor where the Stanley Cup is housed, actually used to be an old bank at the turn-of-the-century. This alone makes the HHOF quite fascinating.
One odd thing about visiting the hockey Hall of Fame, is the fact that you cannot access it from the front, and the only way inside is by going through a mall. Outside of the hall, before you even enter it, you will find a number of interesting things, such as the goalie mask display they have. Inside you will find a number of displays and memorabilia that many hockey fan can appreciate, including an exact replica of the Montréal Canadiens locker room, (circa 1970) and the net and puck involved in the record-setting goal by Wayne Gretzky. You’ll also find a number of interactive events here, including a goalie simulation and shooting booth that records the speed of your shot. But the real treat is whenever you head upstairs , into the old bank.
Up here you will find some the most valuable things in the hall, including the Stanley Cup itself being displayed. You can actually walk inside a vault, where they have a number of displays, including the original Stanley Cup, which is quite an eye catcher. When I was there, they also had the Stanley Cup ring of badger Bob Johnson, being displayed. Whenever you are in this room, you can feel the wood creak beneath your feet, and really get a sense of the historical significance behind all of these displays. I suggest that anybody who visits the hockey Hall of Fame, spend at least 2 to 3 hours taking in everything, as there is so much to see and do while you are there.
